Dear Flourish

I happened to come across this blog while searching for South African gardening information. I have really enjoyed reading your monthly tips.

I live in the Fish Hoek valley, and I would recommend Harry Goemans Garden Centre on Kommetjie Rd in Sunnydale. They have an excellent range of plants and garden requirements and they are competitively priced.

I look forward to reading more!

These prices are a bit outdated but quality is excellent. Unfortunately all comes in plastic bags. Maybe if enough of us ask they could start taking the bags back and re-using them.

Hi..
Um.. well.. imagine one intact barrel standing up, on it’s base. Then it’s is cut in half horizontally to make two containers, each with a base.
You can get many different sizes – I used the 500 litres, which will be 80cm in diameter at its widest point, and I think about 40/50 cm high.. Perhaps not ideal for a bigger tree, but a fruit tree or something smaller is great. Good luck!

Hi Ally, what a super idea! Just so I am clear is each half lying horizontal with the tree in it? Is it not to shallow? Or have I misunderstood???
